http://www.artinthepicture.com/artists/Eugene_Delacroix/liberty.jpeg

Famous painting by Eugene Delacroix (the great Eugene Delacroix!)….Liberty Leading the People….1830….Most of us who take time to ponder our plight these days (well, in truth, you don’t have to ponder anything….your “plight” is evident all around you) look at this and retitle it “Exxon & the Titans of the Financial Industry Trample the Masses in Greedy Pursuit of Ever More Riches, Ever More Power, Ever More “Advantage of the Elite,” Ever More….Well, Just Ever More….All the Time, Endlessly, Ever More, Ever More!!”….Sounds like Poe’s “The Raven”!!…..We’re not even able to express the depth of our disgust, our disappointment, our fear, our lack of trust, our lack of faith in these elite classes of people & business and the governments that bow down before them and grant them their every wish, their every whim, while millions upon millions suffer the consequences of their GREED, the consequences of their refusal to even acknowledge that many of us exist…..It is as if Liberty and Humanity and Government have abandoned us, have almost totally given up the ship to these greedy, greedy, greedy and, other than with reference to their own circle of “friends” and family, absolutely self-centered and “caring not for others” bastards…..Note that I said “almost”….There is still hope and time and good people in and out of government (very few it seems, if any, in the business world) who will at least TRY to lead us back to some sense of equality, liberty, and justice for all……

Vintage “colorized” photograph…..Vienna Court Opera….1902…..Considering the state of my economy (well, the local, county, state, country, world economy if you insist that I get really, really depressed…..and I’m not a depressed sort of guy….wacky and semi-crazed most of the time, but not depressed…..and if I was, I’d just pop 3 or 4 Cialis and I’d be just fine…..or did the commercial say Abilify….I forget….Guess I’d better check on that just in case some day this whole messy-mess actually gets me depressy-pressed!!)….Well, back to my original thought….I digressed…..Considering the state of my economy, I wish I could spend the next 3 or 4 years (I’m a very optimistic person) back in this place at that time…..Just kind of strolling my days away, worrying only about what I’ll have for brunch or lunch or din-din and what play or kinescope I’ll be seeing that evening (of course, I have NO IDEA whether kinescopes were around then, but I’m too overwhelmed by laziness due to the current state of my economy to look it up……I’m guessing “probably, but maybe not in Vienna”)…..I long to escape for 3 or 4 years and then come back and check on my pension-less pension and my 401katastrophe!!….Thanks to my friend and friendly Stumbler Content90803 for this spectacular image!!…I like it, I like it a lot!!

“Around the World in 80 Days” gone horribly wrong…..Was it the fact that they started the flight inside of castle and couldn’t make it any further than the covered balcony (after flying up those 4 flights of stairs and down those winding hallways and spending all of that time looking for a room that had a big enough opening to get the balloon through and then interrupting the Caliph’s grandson’s 18th birthday party just as the semi-clad exotic dancer was making her way out of the mini-house-sized-cake……All that and then get stuck on the damn balcony, the damn covered balcony…..Who forgot to take into account the birthday party, the exotic dancer, and the covered balcony???…..Who I ask you, Who??

My mother as she appeared in our local parish, St. Gobins de la Jolla, production of “Madame Butterfly”…..No, not that “Madame Butterfly” silly……The pastor found this lovely faerie/butterfly outfit while checking out the second-hand dress & lingerie rack at St. Vinny’s and was inspired to convince my Great Uncle Stepne, the village piano teacher, to produce something, anything, musical connected to the outfit for our Fall Church Bizarre (oh, Bazaar)…..Mom, who, in her younger years, had done her share of female crooning at Ken & Kara’s Karaoke Palace over on Oneida Street, was more than game to play the part, sing the Stepne Tunes, sign the autographs, etc……Uncle Stepne’s musical tragedy was based on the questions “What if the Flying Monkeys in The Wizard of Oz were really attractive faerie butterflies? How would that have changed the fate of Toto??”…..According to the old man, it was terrific (of course he spent the entire time that “Madame” was on playing bingo and drinking several pitchers of Hamms, the Beer Refreshing, so I don’t believe a word he says…..Mom said the music was awful and having to shovel a small mountain of dirt on the stage for each of the 3 performances (and planting the shrubs in said dirt) was beyond awful, but the parishioners loved it……especially the nude scenes (just joking!)….Beautiful retro photo by Stephen Perry!!

I mean who amongst us doesn’t like to post photos that are this good??….Well, I know that there are a few die-hards out there who think positing photos, no matter how hypnotically magical and visually captivating the photos might be, is totally lame-o, an idle attempt by idle people with idle minds to express something within that they just don’t have the words for…..And I am no exception to that attack….I’ve just written a lot of idle words that express nothing other than that I know what it means to be totally lame-o……Still, it’s fun so I shall continue my totally idle lame-o-ness…..If I go to Hell as a result of working my idle ways in the Devil’s Workshop, so be it!!!…..I was kind of thinking I’d go there anyway…..Thanks to Sismail for this (and for many other magical images)
